myLot Discussions| I am going to start a puppy training class in my area.... | | I would like to know if anoyone has any suggestions. The class will be 5 weeks for $50.0 and work on basic sit, stay, lay, come and walk on a leash. There is not a lot offered in may area and the ones that are are very expensive I will do this from my home. I live on 6 acre so I have the space. What things would you suggest I do to make the program fun or different?
| | Puppy training problems? | | Before I give detail, I just want to say, that I have had many great dogs in my life, and have trained all of them.
Recently, my fiance wanted a puppy. So, we of course, took the time, and found one who we both really favored.
We've had him for about a month and a half. He's a boxer/ Pit bull, and very sweet. I have been trying everything I can think of, to potty train him.I can tell he knows he's supposed to go outside. He however, doesn't warn us, so I make sure to take him out every 15 - 35 minutes, and when I think he's looking for a place to go. There's subtle signs that he gives, like every puppy, and most of the time, when I get him outside, he does use the restroom. There are some occasions, I will stand outside with him for 45 minutes to an hour, and he will not go. And as soon as I bring him inside, he immediately potty's on the carpet. I was also understanding, that puppys, and dogs in general, will try their hardest not to use the restroom where they sleep. He seems to favor this.
I am not really sure what I am doing wrong, does anybody have tips?
| | | Help! Puppy training | | Anyone got any advice on how to get my new puppy to go outside to go to the toilet?Brought him three weeks ago when he was just eight weeks. First few days we had training pads down, and slowly took them away and closer to the door on the anticipation that he would keep following the pads. Now though he just goes where the pads were rather than getting closer to the outside.that puppys, and dogs in general, will try their hardest not to use the restroom where they sleep. He seems to favor this.

| | | ? Puppy Training? | | My family recently bought a german shepard puppy. At what age should we being to train him? When would you sign your dog you for classes? Thanks! | |
| | I need some puppy advice | | We got a puppy about a month ago, so he is about 10 weeks old now. He is potty trained and has been for a while now. I dont understand though, why he gets real nervous sometimes and will just go on the floor without coming to get anyone to take him out, and if he does he acts petrified when he is outside. This is during a normal day with nothing any different than any other day. I think he has a nervous disorder or something. We do have dogs in the neighborhood that are quite mean, but they are penned up and never come anywhere near our yard. I wonder if he smells them and just gets nervous, as it seems to be more often when the windows are open than when they are not. What do you think, and how can I help him not to be scared to go out in his own yard. | |
| | | I might be running out of patience.....pls. help! | | My sister gave me a 2-month old female puppy. Actually, I really asked for it coz I want to have another dog in the house. I want her inside the house since our other dog is a pitbull. She's so big and we just keep her in a cage outside. The puppy is a crossbreed of japanese spitz and a shih tzu. Her features are more of a shih tzu. She's really so cute and adorable.I named her slurpee. Now, here comes my problem. I've been teaching her for more than two weeks now where to pee and move her bowel but up to this time she's still not learning. She pees and moves her bowel anywhere she pleases. I would let her sniff her urine and stool and spank and scold her and then I place her in the comfort room where I want her to do all those things but up to now she still never understands a thing. Am I being harsh on her? Can a young puppy like her can't be taught yet? Pls. help! I'm beginning to lose my patience. HuHuHu | |
| | Dog Owners: a little advice please:) | | I have a new female puppy, just 4 months old. She's of a mixed breed and she just looks adorable! Our neighbor gave her to us since our male dog is her father. I really want to train her, but I just haven't got the time to buy a book about training dogs. And her Dad, after being with us for 8 years, isn't used to having her around. What would be the wisest thing to do to let them get along? Are there any tips that I should know when taking care of puppies?:D | |
