| | Dog Shock Collar | | Hey allI want to find out if there's a way to make a cheap dog shock collar. My parents have three extremely vocal dogs and refuse to train them. I've tried a few tactics and so far they haven't responded. I figured a shock collar might be a better way to train them. I've had a look online, and it seems they all tend to be quite expensive. I figured if I could MAKE one, then it might be cheaper. I've heard of turning a disposable camera into a taser, but I don't need something THAT powerful! LOL. Any ideas on what I could use and how to turn it into something I can attach to a collar for a dog? Either some kind of remote control device, or more preferably, something that could detect the dog actually barking and work automatically.'ShadyNOTE: I'm sure I'm gonna get at least one person saying "Oh you can't put a shock collar on a dog, that's inhumane!" If you actually knew what a shock collar was, you'd shut up. A good shock collar doesn't actually HURT the dog at all, it simply startles them, causing them to stop their behaviour (which is incompatible with the startle response). Completely harmless. I don't want to electrocute them, I just want to teach them not to... | |
| | I hate to know about those dogs having bark and shock collar. | | I have a neighbor who has a cute poodle like dog. It barks and he hates it. But honestly it doesn't bark a lot. He has this collar that shocks the dog. I am not a dog lover or owner for one. But I personally feel this is torture. The dog came to my house I hate noise. But,I wanted the collar off the dog. What can you tell me to make me feel better? | |
| | | She keeps on barking all day | | Okay, I already asked this question once but I need to ask it again so maybe I can collect some more opinions. The problem is: MY DOG BARKS TOO MUCH.She is a one year old welsh corgie and she is hyperactive. We bring her outside for a walk, she isn't stressed because we play with her and she has a whole garden in which to play with our neighbour's cat, they play together. The problem is the barking, it's a constant thing.she barks when someone goes away and leave the room
she barks when she hears a noise
she barks when someone leaves the table after we've eaten
she barks when she tries to catch my cats' attention
she barks when we talk and don't consider herThese are just a few of the things that make her go insane and bark like crazy. Any suggestions? I'm SCARED that our new neighbours might say she's too noisy and that we have to get rid of her:\I tried the "no barking thing" by keeping her mouth close but it's not working:\
| | Are shock collars for your dog inhumane? | | I've been having this debate with my husband lately. We have a black lab that is 10 months old and behaves like a bologna head. He's seriously just a big boob at times but he's still a pup even though he's very large. He's very gentle and loving but it's like he doesn't know his own strength and can't control himself. For example, he will jump on people when they come in the front door. This drives my husband crazy and he wants to get a shock collar to teach him not to do this. I think this is inhumane. I couldn't imagine shocking my dog. I bought him a choke chain and I hold him when someone comes in the door, if he jumps up then I give his chain a tug and he sits down. He's learning but my hubby thinks he's not getting it fast enough and wants this shock collar. I have a friend who tells me that he used it for his dog and it worked great. I'm disgusted with my friend because of that. Has anyone used a shock collar? What do you think of these collars, are they inhumane? I think they hurt the animal and shouldn't be used. | |
| | Barking Dogs | | My dogs have a common, and yet very annoying problem. They bark all the time--from passing neighbors, to the mailman, to what sometimes seems to be nothing at all. There is a lot of advice out there, and I would love to discuss these choices and get some feedback.
The first method involves squirting water at the dog each time he or she barks. This is supposed to get the dog's attention off whatever he or she is barking at and focus on you instead. What is great about this method is it works instantly; however, the real question revolves around the long-term benefit. Does the dog really understand why you are squirting water? Is it scaring the dog and harming your relationship? The second method, so I have heard, is the shock collar. It works much like the water bottle method, but it administers a shock instead of a squirt. The same pros and cons apply; I believe this method is a bit inhumane, but the shock sure does get the dog's attention.
The third method is treating the dog to give him or her a positive association with passing strangers. Before the dog sees the stranger, give him or her a bit of a treat. Continue this as the stranger passes. If he or she starts barking, give...
| | That CONFOUNDED DOG!!! | | Well, that BAD dog of the roommates woke us up attacking some cat just before 6 this morning! Da-yam! I'm ready to do INJURY to the DOG if she keeps this up! I made her go out, but she acted like she was happy to go out so I doubt she thinks of it as punishment! The roomie is putting the shock collar on her tomorrow night, we can't have her going after the cats - she's too big for that. And I need my sleep! I do NOT need to awaken by anything before its time to get up, but here I am, almost an hour later, still awake! | |
