| Can someone help me with training my new puppy? | | I just got a 6 month old rat terrier. She is so cute and lovable. She thinks she needs to be sitting on my lap when she is not pinging off the walls.
She has a nipping problem. I have been trying to work on that problem with her. I tend to hit the tip of her nose with my index finger when she bites me and tell her NO or stop. The trouble with that is she runs away from me before I can catch her. When I ignore her that is when she runs up and nips me. When she is mad at me she will bite me out of anger. I have held her down by holding her neck down. I have not hurt her but just held her down and told her no do not bite.
It only took three days to learn not to dart out of the door when I go out. It took her four days to get her to sleep in her kennel. Now she will go into her kennel if I bribe her with a treat.
Her biggest problem now is she continues to chase and bark at my cats. I go after her and tell her no and put her in a basket that I have for her. I make her stay in the basket when she has chased the cats.

| | How do you teach a puppy to stop biting? | | My boyfriend's family just got a new puppy. It's a Golden Retreiver. She is only about 2 months old but she has this horrible habit of biting. She was raised with many other Golden Retriever puppies and I think she is having a hard time realizing that people don't bite when they play. The biggest concern right now is that she keeps snapping at everyone's face. I do not think she means any harm but is just confused. Does anyone know of a good way to get her out of that habit? They bought her some chew toys but she would still rather chew on toys and ears. Any advice would be helpful, thank you. | |
| | Do some people have NO respect????? | | When you walk your dog and he poops in someone else's yard, do you clean it up? or Leave it? I for one have more respect for other peoples yards. Even if I know they have dogs themselves, I bring a plastic bag with me and I clean up any mess my dog leaves in other people's yards. This is one thing that really ticks me off. Now yes we have a dog and he does poop in our own yard, but he does his business in the back yard. Plus my husband even cleans up our own dogs poop in the back yard, mainly because we have small children and we don't want them stepping in it and dragging it in the house. Well today my husband went out side to mow the lawn and guess what he found in our front yard and almost stepped in? You got it!!! Dog poop! I know for a fact it is not our dogs, because we have a fenced in back yard. Unless we put our dog on a leash, he doesn't have access to the front yard. So somebody walking thier dog in the past few days allowed thier dog to poop in our yard and then just leave it. Now I know some of you are going to say that it could have been a stray. | What to do with my dog. | | I have dog who is a mixed breed that we adopped as a baby of 6 weeks from a amimal shelter, he was so small I held him in my hands on the ride home. He was so scared and tiney that I wraped him in a blanket and carried him in my arms day and night for the first three days we had him, needless to say we bonded so well now that he is four years old that every time I have to leave him at home he is tramitized. You see about 5 months we took a day trip to see my son and his family and one of my daughters that was with him at the time, and our car broke down and we didn't make it home till the next day, and by the time we made it home our dog was so upset that he still hasn't recovered from it, he thinks he has to be with my husband and I 24 hours a day, and is upset every time one of us leaves. What can I do? I might add that he is not a people dog and takes hours or even days to warm up to any one even family members that he has seen before. | |

He had some medical problems but the state said that she could take him to an in-patient treatment center so that they could bond. A week later she got herself kicked out and the baby placed in foster care.
